Every Letter Opens a Door.
We believe communication is a human right. At Spellers Connect, we walk alongside individuals with sensory and motor differences — those with no speech, minimal speech, or unreliable speech — helping them find their voice through Spelling to Communicate (S2C)™.
Your words are in there. We help you spell them out.
What We Do and What is S2C™?
We support individuals with sensory and motor differences in developing a reliable way to communicate. Nonspeaking, Minimally Speaking, and Unreliably Speaking individuals have rich thoughts, ideas, and intelligence that are often misunderstood because traditional speech is not available to them. Through Spelling to Communicate™ (S2C™), Nonspeakers are taught the purposeful motor skills that make spelling accessible, giving them the tools to express themselves, connect with others, and share their true voices.
Spelling to Communicate™ (S2C™) is a method that teaches individuals with motor and sensory differences how to point to letters on a letterboard to spell their thoughts. Many nonspeaking people have strong language and ideas but face challenges with speech due to difficulties in motor planning and control. Through guided practice, S2C™ builds the purposeful motor skills needed for reliable communication.
My Why
In 2019, while advocating for the Ontario Autism Program, I met an 11-year-old named William who communicated through a keyboard.
In that brief encounter, William stopped me in my tracks. Here was an intelligent, thoughtful young person who had always had so much to say — the world just hadn’t given him the right tools to say it.
And I had been part of that world.
William didn’t just change my perspective. He changed my path.
My work goes beyond teaching letters on a board. It’s about building trust, fostering independence, and honoring each person’s unique strengths. Communication is a human right — and I am dedicated to ensuring every speller I work with is seen, heard, and valued for exactly who they are.
